"I need to make sales and get customers in. I need to do things differently. I need to do more.”
Threat + Overwhelm = Random Action
>> Lack of clarity kills efficiency.
“Revenue is falling. What am I actually doing here? Will any of this actually work?”
Threat + Overwhelm = Paralysis
>> Lack of clarity kills productivity.
"My offer isn't right yet and I must get it right before I approach potential customers.”
Fear of failure + Imposter Syndrome = Perfectionism
>> Lack of clarity kills growth.
"Will anyone actually buy me and this business model?"
Uncertainty + Self-doubt = Apathy
>> Lack of clarity kills motivation.
All of the above are stories entrepreneurs have told themselves (and me) this week.
As Driven Achiever Types, what we produce, our output, defines us to an unhealthy extent. Part of us believes that what we produce defines our worthiness and therefore, if we stop producing... Well that doesn't bear thinking about.
Having clarity on how exactly our productivity serves us, helps cut through this.
Clarity is knowing what exactly you do, why it’s important to you, how you do it in your unique way and what it does for your customer/society.
Start by thinking about the middle of your personal Venn diagram, the overlap between:
>> Your desired lifestyle.
>> What you most enjoying doing for money.
>> A compelling commercial proposition.
If it sits outside there middle of your Venn diagram, drop it.
When you've identified the thing that unites all three, suspend disbelief for the next 3 months, remind yourself of what and why and take action daily, and gather feedback without slowing down.
After 3 months, pause, build in proper review/reflection/goal setting time and go again.
